Read at Home

May 19, 2022

This weekend I’ll be reading to Headstart and preschool children at Chinle.

This weekend also will be a celebration of having a bookmobile become a reality. Our early literacy nonprofit, Read at Home, has worked with Chinle Planting Hope, another grassroots nonprofit, to support and encourage early literacy. As we have followed the lead of Navajo parents, teachers, and authors, our collaborative efforts have brought together having books and children’s magazines available to children and parents plus home solar light panels to install. Now children and parents have something fun to read together and light to read by.

To all the volunteers, all who are working together, Navajo from Chinle and volunteers from Colorado—Durango Rotary and Glenwood Springs Rotary—thank you.
