The Pomelo Poets

What would I call the flock of Pomelo poets—over 200—who created poems for Hop to It: Poems to Get You Moving?

The Pomelo Poets

I take inspiration from the birds. Imagine hundreds of poets gathering “en masse” and speaking in verse. We sing melodies of metaphors, soar with words, and fly where our imaginations take us.  What is wonderful and amazing about this poetic flock is the care and encouragement given to each other and the passion given to the craft—and sharing—of poetry.

Hop to It: Poems to Get You MovingHave fun sharing a simple poem from Hop to It with a young reader. One of my favorites is Janet Wong’s “When I Feel Scared.”

When I feel scared and don’t know what to say,
I can draw.  I can write.
I can read. I can play.
I can make up a story,
draw a dragon or fox,
build a world out of words,
or Legos or blocks.
Everything in my world
will be good, will be fair.
And with pencil and paper
I can always go there.
